Spicy Avocado Tuna Sandwich

With sriracha mayo??? Game changer.

Not only is this tuna sandwich delicious, it's also totally customizable and super nutrient dense! Read below for the recipe and nutrition information!

 

Recipe Information:

  • Makes 1 serving

  • Total time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices sourdough bread (or favorite sandwich bread)

  • 1 can Chunk Light Albacore Tuna

  • 1/2 or 1 full avocado, depending on preferences

  • 1 tsp mayonnaise (regular) (optional)

  • 2 tsp lemon juice (about a squeeze of 1/2 lemon)

  • OPTIONAL ADD-INS: diced cucumber, diced tomato, diced red onion

  • 1 Tbsp sriracha mayonnaise (pre-made or mayo + sriracha combined)

  • 2 slices Swiss cheese

Recipe:

  1. Toast 2 slices of sourdough bread until golden brown.

  2. While your bread is toasting, make tuna mixture! In a medium bowl, combine tuna, avocado, (regular) mayonnaise, and lemon juice. Use a spoon or fork to mush all together. Mix in optional add-ins if desired!

  3. Once bread is toasted, spread sriracha mayonnaise on each side. Layer cheese on top (melt if desired) and spread tuna mixture onto bread. Close sandwich and enjoy!

  4. **You can also wait to toast until the end, making it into a melt! (see video below)


 

Nutrition:

  • Sourdough bread: the fermentation process of sourdough makes it more digestible than many other bread types (great for the gut)!! It also delivers iron and folate from its fortified flour and packs in vitamin B12, which is usually only found in animal foods!

  • Albacore tuna: albacore tuna is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential and anti-inflammatory healthy fats! It's also full of nutrients such as complete protein, vitamin D, vitamin B12, selenium, and iron.

  • Avocado: avocado is full of nutrients and has been associated with a lower risk of many chronic diseases! It's stocked with healthy fats (MUFAs!!), potassium, fiber, and carotenoids (antioxidants great for the immune system and the eyes!)
