Evidence-based sleep recipe that actually works!
This is my tried and trued SLEEP MOCKTAIL. If you're like me and have a hard time falling asleep + staying asleep, this concoction is scientifically linked to better rest. Read below for the recipe information & why it works!
Recipe Information:
Makes 1 serving
Total time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
1/2 cup 100% tart cherry juice (from concentrate is totally fine, but there should be nothing added! Ensure the only ingredient is tart cherry juice)
2 tsp elderberry syrup
A squeeze (1/4 tsp) liquid magnesium
1/2 cup boiling water
2 capsules ashwaghanda
Recipe:
Add tart cherry juice, elderberry syrup, liquid magnesium, and boiling water to a large mug and mix well. Drink while warm!
Take two capsules of ashwaghanda while drinking your tea.
*Optional: can also remove the powder from the ashwaghanda capsules and mix into the tea!
Nutrition & Why It Works:
Tart cherry juice: tart cherries naturally contain melatonin, as well as tryptophan, which produces melatonin! This helps to boost and regulate your body's natural sleep hormone levels. *As a note, I generally don't add more than 1/2 cup in this mocktail because of the sugar! It is completely natural sugar and has zero refined sugar, which is great, and is nothing that I am concerned about. My concern, however, is that sugar is a large energy source for the body so I like to be mindful of that before bed!
Elderberry syrup: reduces stress & calms the body, reduces inflammation, and is full of antioxidants and vitamins to boost the immune system! Liquid magnesium with trace minerals: plays a role in regulating melatonin levels, calming the central nervous system and can correct common mineral deficiencies!
